  • SPORT FLYING - JANUARY 1974
I happened to be wandering around at the Oxnard Airport one day and came across a Bell P-39 Airacobra sitting on the ramp. The next thing I knew, the photo editor for Sport Flying magazine offered me the job of shooting aerials of it. Who could say no? Not me! Please excuse the rather bedraggled look of the cover. It's old and I'm afraid not very well taken care of.

  • BELL RP-39Q AIRACOBRA MR. MENNEN
This image ended up being used as the double-truck for the article. I was justifiably proud, as I'd set the shot up myself.

  • SPORT FLYING - FEBRUARY 1974
The writer had so much to say that the article spilled over to the next month's issue. Hey, it got me a couple more photos published.

  • SPORT FLYING TEAR SHEET
I was sorely disappointed at a) their use of this particular image -- the main shot, not the inset which I love -- and b) all the goobers at the right-hand edge. No byline, either. Oh, well, they're there. I had to use the tear sheet as I didn't get either slide back from the magazine.

  • COWBOY CHICKEN BILLBOARD
This was a free-lance job my brother-in-law set me up with. This is on the frontage road of North Central Expressway, across from the North Park Shopping Mall.

  • COWBOY CHICKEN
Here's the shot used for the billboard. This is darned good chicken, too, by the way.

This is one of three photos displayed at the Photographic Center in Dallas. We were showing our work from the previous year's workshop to Big Bend National Park.

  • SPIRIT DANCE
This one I actually sold at the opening, my first ever.

  • MONAHANS SANDHILLS SUNRISE
I was surprised when they chose this image for showing, but I suppose the sensuality of it might have had something to do with the decision.

  • PLANO SPLASH-N-DASH - 1988

  • SKYREVUE - NOVEMBER 2011
I was totally taken aback when a writer for this Austrian aviation magazine wrote me and asked to use one of my photos for an article on roadable aircraft, or as the title translates, "Flying Autos." Of course, I accepted.
